Before you start

You’ll need:

  • A Chromebook (any brand — Acer, HP, Lenovo, Samsung, ASUS, Dell, etc.).
  • A PDF file, either downloaded or shown in Chrome.
  • A Wi-Fi printer on the same Wi-Fi network as your Chromebook.

The steps

Open the PDF

  • If someone emailed you the PDF, open Gmail and click the attachment. It will open in Chrome.
  • If you downloaded the PDF, click the Files app (the blue folder icon in your Launcher) and double-click the file.
  • If the PDF lives on a web page, just click the link. Chrome will open it automatically.

Open the Print window

Hold Ctrl and press P. A Print window will slide in from the right side of Chrome.

Click the Destination drop-down

Near the top of the Print window, you’ll see Destination: followed by something like “Save as PDF” or the name of a printer.

Click it. A small menu will open. If your printer is in the list, click it and jump to the next step. If not, click See more destinations… at the bottom.

A bigger list will appear — often with printers marked Available printers. Click yours.

Still don't see your printer? Add it manually

  • Click the three-dot menu at the top-right of Chrome.
  • Click Settings.
  • In the search bar at the top of Settings, type printer.
  • Click PrintersAdd printer.
  • Chrome OS will scan your network. When your printer appears, click Set up. Chromebooks carry drivers for most major brands built in — setup usually takes under a minute.

Then go back to your PDF and try Ctrl + P again.

Adjust the settings

Good options to check:

  • Pages — “All” or a range like 1-2 to save paper.
  • Copies — leave at 1 unless you want more.
  • Layout — Portrait (tall) or Landscape (wide).
  • Color — choose Black and white to save color ink.
  • Paper size — usually Letter in the US.
  • Pages per sheet — leave at 1 unless you want 2, 4, or 6 small pages on one sheet.

Click Print

The big blue Print button is at the bottom of the Print window. Click it once. Your Chromebook sends the file to the printer, and paper should start coming out within a minute.
